Woman Made A Last-Minute Travel Plan, But Her Mom Snapped At Her Because No One Would Look After Their Sickly Dog

White dog feeling tired and lying on the ground

Mother-child arguments are normal, even when the child is already a grown-up.

This story is about a woman who lives with her mother, and both of them care for a sickly dog.

They both have plans to go out of town on Halloween, so there will be no one to take care of their pet.

When she informed her mom about her plans, she got yelled at despite offering some possible solutions.

Uh oh! Does it really have to be a huge argument? Read the full story below.

Am I the jerk for telling my mom about last minute travel plans?

I (25F) live with my mom (55F) currently for nursing school.

I was originally in SD, now in PHX as of 2 years ago.

My mom and I work full time in a hospital (12-hour shifts).

She’s nights and I’m days, so we often are both busy and don’t see each other much.

This woman organized a last-minute trip to see her friends in South Dakota.

We have 2 dogs, one of which requires 12-hour seizure medicine.

The problem is that my mom will be out of town for a wedding the weekend of Halloween.

I have last-minute plans to drive to SD for Halloween, which is 5 hours away.

I will be driving out Oct. 31 and driving back Nov. 1.

On top of work, I am in school and been on go mode constantly.

I don’t have many friends here and would like to be home to see my friends.

As her mom will also be out of town, no one will watch their dogs.

My plans to go out of town were previously tentative until about a few days ago.

I completely spaced on telling my mom. The issue is, we have no one to watch our dogs.

I took this into consideration when telling her this today and offered to take on the responsibility of finding and paying for boarding fees for the one night.

I also have cousins that would be able to stay at the house for one night.

Her mom snapped at her.

When I told her about the situation today, she completely blew up.

She told me she doesn’t want my cousins to watch the dogs because she doesn’t trust them to be able to stick to one of our dog’s medication schedule.

I told her I would arrange boarding options, and she responded that one of the dogs is due for a vaccine.

I was unaware of this. I told her I would take him to get vaccinated as I am off for the next 5 days.

She already felt exhausted from work, and her mom wouldn’t stop yelling at her.

She still was unhappy with my plan of action.

She continued to yell and even followed me to the bathroom to yell outside the door.

I just worked a crazy 12-hour shift where I was a 1:1 sitter for a very physically and verbally abusive patient.

I am exhausted and want to agree on a solution, not go back and forth over an inconvenience.

Please tell me if I am the jerk and her response is warranted or if she’s overreacting.

Sounds like her mom refuses to listen to possible solutions that she offered.

Here’s an honest comment.

This one blames OP.

Here’s another valid opinion.

A long but comprehensive remark.

When it comes to pet responsibilities, some people only trust family members and nobody else.
